A new establishment, Burger Vault, has opened its doors in Keller, Texas, offering halal meat options. This development has sparked a range of reactions from the local community, highlighting underlying tensions regarding diversity and acceptance in the area.
Located at 841 N Tarrant Parkway, Burger Vault was recently welcomed by the City of Keller through a social media post, which proudly mentioned its halal offerings. This sparked a wave of supportive comments, but also drew ire from some residents.
One user, Traveln Moore Vacations, expressed their discontent, stating, “Will never go eat at this place or Buffalo Wild Wings. No supporter of Islam. They can burn in Hell for all we care!” Such sentiments were echoed by others, including Stacey L Head, who lamented the presence of halal businesses, lamenting, “thank God I don’t live in Keller.” Head’s comment included a disparaging reference to the city’s governance, illustrating a deeper concern about perceived shifts in community values.
Questions and criticisms about halal meat itself surfaced as well. User Steve Quance posted, “Halal meat??? WTF IS THAT? Is that a goat bride???” while Brandi Berryhill Vannoy questioned the city’s support for Muslim businesses, asking, “Since when did Keller turn pro Muslim??”
Opposition to these views came from supporters of the new business, who humorously countered the negativity. Danny Cortez quipped, “And their pricing is in Arabic numerals! When will this stop?!” highlighting the absurdity of the backlash.
This situation in Keller serves as a microcosm of broader national conversations around inclusivity, cultural understanding, and the challenges that often accompany demographic shifts in communities.
