A quest for justice continues 56 years after the tragic murder of 23-year-old Mary Ellen Robinson in Galveston. Her family member, Alycia Randazzo, remains determined to seek answers regarding this long-unsolved case.
Mary Ellen Robinson was brutally murdered on May 13, 1970, a crime that shocked the community and was prominently featured in the local news. Alycia describes her late relative as a person full of life and humor, attributes she believes resemble those of her grandfather.
While Alycia never had the opportunity to meet Mary Ellen, her family’s efforts to uncover the truth about what transpired that fateful day have been unwavering. Approximately a decade ago, Alycia’s grandparents visited Galveston in hopes of finding clarity regarding the case. Unfortunately, they were informed that crucial evidence had been lost due to a hurricane.
Recently, however, Alycia received a 76-page case file following her open records request to the Galveston Police Department, bringing a renewed sense of hope to her search for justice. According to the report, Mary Ellen and her roommate had been packing for a move the night before her murder, with several boxes of clothing discovered in her vehicle, ready to be delivered to the Railway Express office on the day of the attack.
While the likelihood of achieving justice after so many years may seem slim, Alycia believes it is still possible. “If something happened to me, I would want people to know about me and what I went through,” she expressed, reflecting on the loneliness that Mary Ellen must have felt in her final moments.
