A 19-year-old has been apprehended and charged in connection with the fatal shooting of a man in northwest Houston last month.
Brandon Cheatom is now in custody, facing charges of murder and failing to identify himself to a police officer. Currently, the bond for the lesser charge is set at $1,000.
The incident occurred on March 28 around 10 p.m. when authorities received a report about a deceased individual on Hollister Road near Sonneville Drive. Upon arrival, officers discovered 27-year-old Darly Hernandez lying on the sidewalk, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
In an effort to gather information, police released surveillance footage on April 2, seeking assistance in identifying a person of interest captured in the video. A subsequent tip led investigators to identify Cheatom as the suspect.
In light of the circumstances, a motion has been submitted seeking a hearing to deny Cheatom’s bond. This request is based on the fact that he is accused of committing the murder while under supervision for a separate felony. Court records reveal that Cheatom had been placed on eight years of probation last November after pleading guilty to aggravated robbery involving a deadly weapon.
At this time, further details regarding the shooting remain unclear.
