Texas Gas Prices Surge as National Average Reaches $4 per Gallon

The price of gasoline in Texas is on the rise as the national average has reached $4 per gallon once again. This increase comes amid escalating tensions surrounding the ongoing conflict between the U.S. and Iran.

As reported by AAA, the average cost of unleaded gasoline in Texas has climbed to $3.57 per gallon. This marks a 15-cent increase from the previous week, an 11-cent rise from last month, and an 82-cent surge compared to a year ago.

The highest gas prices in the state can be found in West Texas and the El Paso region, while Houston and Austin offer the most affordable options. Despite these increases, Texas prices remain 43 cents lower than the national average.

Context of Rising Prices

The upward trend in fuel costs coincides with heightened military engagement in the Middle East, particularly following recent U.S. airstrikes aimed at Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps. These strikes were a response to an attack on a Jordanian military base that resulted in the deaths of two American service members.

Over the weekend, three U.S. troops lost their lives due to various incidents in the region. Among the fatalities was 19-year-old Army Private Isabella Gonzales from Texas, who was killed in a missile strike on an airbase in Jordan, while another soldier died during a controlled detonation in Iraq.
