Former US Attorney Exonerated: Houston Hit and Run Charges Dismissed

HOUSTON – A Harris County jury has chosen not to indict a former U.S. attorney accused of a hit-and-run incident in Houston earlier this year.

Charge Dropped Against Jennifer Lowery

Recent records indicate that a grand jury returned a no bill for Jennifer Lowery, who faced charges for failing to stop and render aid following a crash. A “no bill” signifies that the jury found insufficient evidence to warrant a trial, leading them to request Lowery’s release from custody.

Details of the May 2026 Crash

The incident in question occurred on May 14, 2026, on Memorial Drive near Birdsall Street. Reports suggest that a driver stated he was traveling east on Memorial when his vehicle was struck by another car that had crossed into the median.

Authorities discovered a vehicle with front-end damage parked in a nearby driveway, which was allegedly registered to Lowery. Previous court documents reveal that Lowery’s husband, identifying himself as an attorney, spoke with police and confirmed his wife’s involvement in the accident.

Who is Jennifer Lowery?

Jennifer Lowery previously held the position of chief federal law enforcement officer for the region. She was appointed as U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Texas in April 2022, having served in an interim capacity since February 2021. She led the office until her successor took over in December 2022.

Defense Attorney’s Statement

In a statement from Lowery’s defense attorney, it was clarified that an investigation concluded that Lowery did not leave the scene of the crash. Both Lowery and the other driver reportedly believed that the other had fled. The other driver allegedly drove approximately a block and a half before pulling into a shopping center parking lot, out of view from Lowery and two male witnesses who recorded video of the incident.

After the crash, Lowery returned home, and her husband subsequently contacted 911 to report her involvement in the accident.
