Celebrating its 35th anniversary, the newly restored 4K version of Point Break is set to thrill audiences once again, offering fans a chance to relive the iconic moments featuring Bodhi and Johnny Utah, as well as the unforgettable surfing and skydiving scenes. This special presentation, organized by Resurgence Media Group, Saga Arts, and Fathom Entertainment, invites viewers to “experience the edge” as the film makes its way back to theaters in North Texas.
On Sunday, August 16, and Wednesday, August 19, moviegoers can catch this acclaimed action thriller at 13 different theaters located in or near Tarrant County. The film stars Keanu Reeves and Patrick Swayze, alongside a talented cast that includes Gary Busey, Lori Petty, John C. McGinley, James LeGros, and Anthony Kiedis. Point Break intertwines crime, extreme sports, and surfing, following a group of bank robbers known as the Ex-Presidents, who commit heists while donning masks of former U.S. presidents. The FBI suspects that the gang consists of surfers and sends rookie agent Johnny Utah (Reeves) undercover to infiltrate their ranks. As Utah becomes increasingly captivated by the charismatic Bodhi (Swayze) and his thrill-seeking crew, he must grapple with his loyalties.
Fans, both long-time admirers and newcomers, will be treated to an exclusive introduction from surfing legend Matt Archbold, who served as Patrick Swayze’s surf double and helped train the cast in surfing techniques. Archbold will share behind-the-scenes stories from the film’s production and discuss the essence of surfing, freedom, and the thrill of risk that permeates the narrative.
This theatrical revival is being enthusiastically embraced within the surfing community, with special features from adrenaline-driven media outlets such as Surfer Magazine, Fuel TV, Men’s Journal, as well as organizations like the World Surf League and the U.S. Open of Surfing.
“Few films have cultivated a fan base as devoted as Point Break,” remarked Shannah Miller, Vice President of Marketing for Fathom Entertainment. “This newly restored 4K version, thirty-five years after its original release, delivers exactly what fans have been yearning for: Bodhi, Johnny Utah, and those legendary surfing and skydiving sequences.”
