The district’s board voted unanimously to dismiss King following claims that she neglected to report abuse by Paul Campbell, a teacher who is now facing multiple charges related to sexual misconduct involving students.
King was placed on administrative leave last month as the situation unfolded. A civil lawsuit filed against her alleges that she received at least one report regarding Campbell’s inappropriate conduct but failed to conduct an investigation or inform law enforcement about the allegations. Campbell, who taught second grade at Brinker Elementary, is currently incarcerated on charges of sexual abuse and indecency involving several students.

The lawsuit asserts that King did not notify the Texas Education Agency regarding the claims made against Campbell, who had been employed at the school since 2024. The lawsuit highlights a particularly troubling incident where an 8-year-old girl reported that Campbell had touched her inappropriately during the school year, an allegation echoed by other potential victims.
King is currently a defendant in the civil lawsuit but has not been charged with any criminal offenses. Following the school board’s decision on Thursday, steps are now being taken to formally terminate her position as principal.
Background on Campbell’s Arrest
Campbell was initially arrested on July 8 and charged with continuous sexual abuse of a child. According to an affidavit, he allegedly abused a second-grade student on school grounds. The young girl confided in her parents over the Fourth of July weekend about the inappropriate touching that occurred while she sought assistance from Campbell.
After the initial allegations came to light, police issued additional warrants for Campbell, who is now facing three more charges of indecency with a child. Investigators report that the courage of the first victim has led to other students coming forward with similar allegations against him, indicating a pattern of misconduct.

Campbell’s attorney maintains that his client denies all accusations and is currently seeking to reduce his bond, which is set at an extraordinary $2.5 million.
