Hays County Investigators Recover Stolen Corvette, Trailers, and Equipment
The Hays County Sheriff’s Office has successfully recovered a range of stolen items, including a car, trailers, and various pieces of equipment, following a thorough investigation.
Assistance in the recovery efforts came from the Guadalupe County Sheriff’s Office, which played a key role in the findings.
Details of the Recoveries
The sheriff’s office provided a comprehensive breakdown of each item recovered:
- Corvette: A Corvette, reported stolen from Louisiana, was located with a tampered VIN.
- Trailer and John Deere Excavator: Both a trailer and a John Deere excavator were seized during a traffic stop. These items had been reported stolen from San Antonio in 2022.
- Box Trailer: A box trailer underwent a VTR-68 inspection, a specialized verification to check the identification number. It was discovered that the VIN had been ground off, but investigators managed to identify it through alternative methods, revealing it had been stolen from Hays County in 2023.
- Utility Trailer: Another utility trailer was found with its VIN ground off. Investigators later identified this trailer, confirming it had been stolen from Comal County in 2013.
- Motorcycle: A stolen motorcycle, also with a ground-off VIN, was identified by investigators, and it was found to have been reported stolen from Pflugerville.
Advice for Potential Buyers
The sheriff’s office emphasizes the importance of due diligence when purchasing used vehicles, trailers, or equipment. Prospective buyers are advised to verify the VIN, review the associated paperwork, and ensure they are dealing with a reputable seller.
