One individual lost their life in a three-vehicle chain-reaction accident on eastbound U.S. Highway 290 in Manor on Friday night. Fortunately, no other injuries were reported from the incident, and the highway was reopened approximately three and a half hours after being closed for an investigation.
The identity of the deceased has not yet been disclosed, and law enforcement officials have not indicated whether any charges or citations will be issued in connection with the crash.
The tragic event unfolded around 10 p.m. on October 2, in the eastbound lanes of U.S. 290, situated just west of Gregg Manor Road. Initial investigations suggest that a vehicle traveling east collided with a vehicle that was stopped in traffic, causing a chain reaction that pushed the second vehicle into a third.
Emergency responders attempted to perform CPR on one of the drivers involved; however, the driver was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police reports. Fortunately, other occupants in the vehicles were unharmed.
Following the accident, all eastbound lanes of U.S. 290 between Threshold Lane and Gregg Manor Road were closed for about three and a half hours while emergency crews and investigators addressed the situation.
The Manor Police Department is continuing its investigation into the incident and has not yet announced whether any citations or charges are forthcoming. They received assistance from the Travis County Emergency Services District No. 12, Austin-Travis County EMS, the Travis County Medical Examiner’s Office, and the Travis County Sheriff’s Office.
