Suspect in Officer Involved Shooting in Richland Hills Hospitalized

A man was shot by police on Sunday afternoon in Richland Hills after he charged at officers responding to a violent family dispute. Both the suspect and the victim of the assault were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries, while no officers were harmed in the incident. Authorities have not disclosed the suspect’s identity or confirmed whether he is the father or the adult son involved in the dispute.

The incident took place at around 2:32 p.m. in the 6500 block of Allena Lane, where officers from Richland Hills, along with assistance from the North Richland Hills Police Department, responded to reports of a domestic disturbance. Upon arrival, officers found the victim outside the residence, who reported being physically assaulted by the suspect, who was still inside the home. Officers were informed that the suspect had a history of violence and had access to weapons within the house.

While officers were interviewing the victim, the suspect emerged from the residence, shouting and advancing toward them. Despite being ordered to stop, he continued to approach the officers, which led one of the Richland Hills police officers to discharge their weapon, striking the suspect.

Medical personnel from the Richland Hills Fire Department provided initial assistance at the scene before the suspect was transported to a local hospital by Fort Worth Fire Department paramedics. The victim was also taken to a separate hospital for treatment of injuries sustained during the assault. Fortunately, no officers were injured during the confrontation.

The Texas Rangers are now investigating the officer-involved shooting, and the officer who fired their weapon has been placed on administrative leave, in accordance with department policy. Meanwhile, local detectives are conducting an investigation into the domestic violence incident. The suspect is expected to face charges of third-degree felony family violence assault due to a prior conviction, as well as second-degree felony aggravated assault on a peace officer.
