AUSTIN, Texas – U.S. Army Chief Warrant Officer 5 Josh Muehlendorf, serving with the 1st Air Cavalry Brigade at Fort Hood, is on a mission to recover a cherished item lost during a recent football game flyover.
On October 17, during the Texas vs. Florida matchup at Darrell K Royal Stadium, Muehlendorf and his crew were invited to perform a flyover. As part of the event, they donned their Stetsons from the 1st Cavalry Division for on-field recognition.
Unfortunately, while showcasing their flags during the flight, a sudden gust of wind swept Muehlendorf’s Stetson out of the aircraft. This particular hat holds significant sentimental value for him, having been the very one he received when he joined the unit in 2004.
With 22 years of aviation service under his belt, Muehlendorf describes the hat as irreplaceable, emphasizing its deep personal significance.
He believes the Stetson may have fallen approximately three miles north of DKR Stadium, potentially landing in the Hyde Park, North Loop, or Triangle neighborhoods.
Muehlendorf is appealing to the community for help in locating his lost hat. He urges residents in the nearby areas to keep an eye out for a black Cavalry Stetson, whether in yards, on rooftops, or in the street. Anyone who finds it is encouraged to reach out to him directly through social media.
