Demolition has officially commenced at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center, paving the way for a new, state-of-the-art facility designed to anchor a vibrant, walkable mixed-use district in downtown Dallas. This initiative aims to enhance connectivity between downtown and southern Dallas.
The project will unfold in phases, with the current focus on the demolition of halls D, E, and F. This crucial step is necessary to facilitate the construction of the modern convention center.
Despite the demolition activities, operations will continue uninterrupted in the convention center’s existing halls A, B, and C. These spaces are set to function as the International Broadcast Center for the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup, ensuring that the venue remains active throughout the construction period.
The overall transformation of the convention center is anticipated to be completed by 2029, with plans in place to maintain event hosting in the active sections of the facility during the construction phase.
It is important to note that the Dallas Area Rapid Transit Convention Center Station will be closed throughout the duration of the project. While trains will continue to pass through the area, they will not stop at the station.
