Families in Fort Bend are eagerly awaiting school assignments as the district implements significant boundary changes following the recent closure of seven campuses. District officials have indicated that families can expect to receive personalized information regarding school placements by mid-April.
As part of this process, district leaders are verifying student address data and coordinating transportation and program adjustments for the upcoming 2026–27 school year. Over 1,500 elementary students have had their program placements reviewed, including those in specialized areas such as special education and dual language programs.
In addition to student assignments, teachers affected by the closures will soon receive updates regarding their reassignments. The district has also established a dedicated section on its website to facilitate communication and provide updates to families during this transition.
Despite these efforts, several questions remain unanswered. Families are still uncertain about the specific schools their children will be attending, the details of transportation arrangements, including bus routes and commute times, and how staffing will be allocated across the affected campuses. Furthermore, the long-term plans for the closed school buildings have yet to be determined, although a committee will be formed in the future to explore potential options.
Parents have expressed frustration with the lack of clear information. Sean Ogburn, a parent from Sugar Mill Elementary, noted the challenges in navigating the situation. “It’s been hit or miss,” he remarked, acknowledging the efforts of teachers who are operating with limited information from the school board. Ogburn highlighted the impact of the uncertainty on families, particularly concerning changes to daily routines and potential increases in commute times. “It’s going to add at least 20 minutes to my commute every day,” he stated.
As the district continues to refine its plans, parents remain hopeful for timely updates that will allow them to prepare for the changes ahead.
