Fort Worth police are conducting an investigation following a fatal officer-involved shooting that occurred on Saturday night. The incident unfolded in the vicinity of the 9000 block of South Freeway, where law enforcement officers shot a suspect who had been evading authorities.
During a press briefing, Fort Worth Police Chief Eddie Garcia shared that officers located the suspect around 8 p.m. The individual had reportedly removed their ankle monitor, which was part of the conditions related to an ongoing sexual assault case involving a minor. After a brief pursuit, the suspect arrived at the M&M Inn and Suites.
Chief Garcia detailed that the situation escalated when the suspect drew a handgun, prompting officers to return fire. The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene, while fortunately, no officers sustained injuries during the confrontation.
Authorities have not yet disclosed the identity or age of the deceased suspect. A further press conference regarding the incident is anticipated in the coming week.
