The family of a Georgetown murder victim continues to seek clarity as the investigation into his death extends beyond its initial week.
Kenneth Clanton, aged 33, and 76-year-old James Yost were discovered fatally stabbed in their Sun City residence on December 5. A person of interest in the case, 28-year-old Justice Washington, had been living with them and was later apprehended while driving Yost’s car following another assault. Clanton’s family is earnestly requesting information about his last moments and the motivations behind the tragic events.
The Investigation Progress
On December 5, Georgetown Fire Department responded to a call in the Sun City retirement community. Upon arrival, they found James Yost deceased on a neighbor’s lawn. Inside Yost’s home, first responders discovered Kenneth Clanton also lifeless. Both victims bore wounds that authorities described as consistent with a cutting instrument.
Justice Washington was taken into custody the day after the homicides, identified as a person of interest. He was found inside Yost’s vehicle after allegedly assaulting a Domino’s employee. At the time of the incident, Washington was residing with Clanton and Yost, and Clanton’s sisters have indicated that the three men shared a relationship. They mentioned that one of the men in the household had reservations about the relationship, though they declined to specify who it was.
Family’s Heartfelt Reactions
Rose Morgan, Kenneth’s mother, expressed her profound sorrow, stating, “He was my sunshine, my moon, my everything. My heart is crushed. I’m broken.” The family emphasizes their urgent need for answers regarding the circumstances surrounding his death.
Clanton’s sisters, Lydia Collins and Emily Clanton, voiced their anguish, asking, “When do we get to know? When can we find out if he suffered? We want to know why it all happened.” They noted that Yost and Kenneth had lived together off and on for approximately five years, with Yost supporting Kenneth in his aspiration to become a truck driver. “Kenny stuck by Jim, loved Jim no matter what. Jim really was a great guy, the sweetest,” Collins added.
The family had welcomed Justice Washington into their circle, allowing him to accompany Kenneth during visits home. “We accepted Justice into the family. Anytime Kenny came down, Justice was with him. We let them around our kids. My babies, her babies, were calling him Uncle Justice,” the sisters recounted. Now, they find themselves grappling with the possibility that someone they once considered family could have harmed their brother and Yost.
They expressed their emotional turmoil, saying, “It’s driving us crazy. We’re not eating. We’re not sleeping. We’re exhausted, and our minds are racing.” Above all, Clanton’s family yearns to understand how he spent his final moments, questioning, “Did he suffer? Did he sit there and gasp and cry out for us and our mom?”
Funeral Arrangements
As they await further information from the Georgetown Police Department, Clanton’s sisters are managing funeral arrangements. This week, they saw Kenneth’s body for the first time since his tragic death. “If I could have climbed in the casket with him and held him for hours, I would have,” Collins shared.
The family intends to hold a significant memorial service for Kenneth either before or shortly after Christmas and has initiated a GoFundMe campaign to assist with the funeral expenses.
