A Lake Dallas man has returned home after heroically rescuing his neighbor from an exploding house just moments before the blast occurred. Jacob Sahl made his way back on Thursday, a week after the incident, and despite his relief, he is grappling with anxiety and numerous unanswered questions regarding the explosion.
Local residents and officials have expressed their frustration with Atmos Energy for the lack of communication and clarity surrounding the cause of the explosion. Although an investigation is ongoing, a lawsuit filed by the injured neighbor claims that natural gas was responsible for the blast, a claim that has yet to be substantiated by any official source.
On that fateful day on Moseley Lane, Sahl rushed to his neighbor’s home, only to find it completely destroyed. He recalled the terrifying moment, stating, “Just heard a BOOM. Like feel it in your chest, ears ringing.” Within moments, he located his neighbor trapped under debris, and with great effort, he managed to pull her to safety just before flames engulfed the house. She was subsequently airlifted to the hospital, where she continues to recover.
Following the explosion, Sahl temporarily stayed with family in Fort Worth and struggled to receive updates from city officials and Atmos Energy about the situation. Upon returning home, he voiced his frustrations, noting, “The city told us to check with Atmos and then Atmos refers us to a single post on the website and that’s all anyone gets.” He emphasized that such an incident should never have occurred and questioned why his neighbor was ever in danger.
Others in the community share Sahl’s sentiments. Many residents feel similarly left in the dark and are demanding answers. Although a city council meeting scheduled for Thursday was canceled, council member Randy Evans took the initiative to hold an informal public discussion to address community concerns. “I’m not getting any answers, they’re not getting any answers,” Evans remarked, stressing the need for transparency and communication from local authorities.
The investigation into the explosion’s cause continues, but officials have yet to confirm any details. Atmos Energy has assured that all natural gas services have been restored and that safety surveys have been conducted. The city council has announced a special meeting set for April 1 at 6 p.m., where further discussions are expected to take place.
As Lake Dallas residents grapple with the aftermath of this traumatic event, many are left wondering what the future holds for their community and when they will finally receive the answers they seek.
