The Trump administration is set to engage a Houston-based law firm, which has connections to the administration, to provide legal assistance for unaccompanied minors. This announcement is expected to be published in the Federal Register later this week.
The contract will allocate $150 million to Burke Law Group, with the proposed duration extending for one year beginning August 15.
One of the firm’s founders, Marcella Burkey, previously held appointed positions under the Trump administration at both the Environmental Protection Agency and the Department of the Interior. Another founding partner, Jeffrey Hall, was appointed and confirmed to serve at the EPA late last year.
This development follows the expiration of a contract with a coalition of nearly 100 legal organizations, which the federal government allowed to lapse after failing to compensate them for their services for over six months.
