Following the tragic shooting of 37-year-old Renee Nicole Good by an ICE agent in Minneapolis, protests have erupted nationwide. The Fort Worth community is set to join the movement with a solidarity protest scheduled for today at 4 PM in downtown.
The demonstration will take place at General Worth Square, located at 916 Main St, and will run until 6 PM, with a march commencing at 5 PM. This event is part of a larger wave of protests occurring in various states, including Kansas, New Mexico, Ohio, and Florida, as individuals voice their outrage over the incident.
Despite mainstream media often aligning with right-wing narratives, video evidence and an independent forensic analysis reveal that the ICE agent was not in imminent danger when he shot into Good’s vehicle, which she was turning away from him at that moment.
In a related incident, federal agents in Portland, Oregon, shot and injured two people the following day, further raising concerns about the actions of federal law enforcement.
The current administration claims to be cracking down on illegal activity; however, data from ProPublica suggests that approximately 72% of all ICE detainees have no criminal convictions. Critics argue that the administration is using federal forces to instill fear in predominantly blue regions, potentially suppressing voter turnout.
The Fort Worth protest is organized by a coalition of local groups, including Indivisible TX-12, Democratic Socialists of America (FTW), Tarrant Young Democrats, Panther City AO (Anarchist Organization), Sunrise Tarrant, NAARPR Dallas (National Alliance Against Racist & Political Repression), YALL DFW (Young Active Labor Leaders), Party for Socialism & Liberation, DFW Support Committee, Revolutionary Front, and the DFW Anti-War Committee.
