Kyle Man Sentenced to 25 Years for Shooting Wife During 2024 Argument

A man from Kyle, Texas, has been sentenced to 25 years in prison after being convicted of shooting his wife during a heated argument in December 2024.

Rodger Wilder, 73, was found guilty by a jury of aggravated assault against a family member. The jury delivered the sentence on March 5.

According to the Hays County Criminal District Attorney’s office, the incident occurred during a dispute with his wife of 44 years. Wilder’s anger escalated to violence as he strangled her before shooting her four times with a handgun at close range, targeting her hip and abdomen.

The couple’s son heard the gunfire and rushed downstairs, discovering Wilder standing over his mother with the weapon. Although Wilder attempted to assert that his wife had tried to take her own life, the son managed to disarm him and prevent further harm by locking him outside while he called 911.

Emergency responders transported the wife to the hospital, where she received treatment and ultimately survived the attack.

During the sentencing phase, the jury also heard accounts of years of emotional, verbal, and physical abuse that Wilder had inflicted on his wife.
