Man Receives Life Sentence for 2017 Frisco Murder Case

A man has been sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for a capital murder that took place in Frisco in 2017. Kerrico Carr, 44, was convicted in connection with a cold case that had remained unsolved for several years. The breakthrough in the investigation occurred in 2023 when new detectives were able to link Carr to the crime through various pieces of evidence, including jailhouse recordings, cellphone records, and testimony from the getaway driver.

The District Attorney’s Office for Collin County has not disclosed any details regarding the identity of the victim involved in the case.

Guilty Verdict & Life Sentence

Recently, Carr was found guilty of capital murder, which automatically resulted in a life sentence. During the trial, prosecutors presented key evidence, including a recorded jail call in which Carr admitted to visiting the crime scene on the day of the murder to collect a debt from the victim. Additional evidence, such as cellphone records and witness testimonies, corroborated his presence at the scene. Furthermore, a second suspect testified that Carr was the shooter.

District Attorney Greg Willis commented on the case, stating, “Violent criminals should know that there is no statute of limitations for murder, and police and prosecutors never forget. This conviction brings delayed justice to a grieving family and ensures a violent murderer will never be free to walk our streets again.”

Frisco Cold Case Murder

The tragic shooting occurred on June 30, 2017, in a Frisco neighborhood. Witnesses reported seeing two suspects arrive in a gray van and approach the victim’s vehicle, which was parked outside his residence. When the victim noticed the men, he attempted to flee between the houses. However, a masked man who was a passenger in the van pursued him and shot him in the back, resulting in the victim’s death. Both suspects then escaped in the van.

Investigators learned from the victim’s girlfriend and family that he owed money to Carr, who had been sending threatening messages. Initially, police arrested another individual, but he was later released after it was determined he had no involvement in the crime, leaving the case cold for several years.

In 2023, a new team of detectives revisited the investigation and focused on Carr once again. They managed to locate the suspected driver of the van, who reportedly confessed to being at the crime scene and was willing to testify that Carr fired the fatal shot. At the time of his arrest, Carr was already incarcerated in Arkansas for conspiracy to commit identity theft.

As of now, the Collin County District Attorney’s Office has not made any information about the victim public.
