Painted Tree Boutiques has unexpectedly shut down all of its locations nationwide, leaving both employees and vendors in a state of confusion and distress. This abrupt closure affects over 60 stores, including six in the Houston area, catching many off guard.
Signs posted at the Katy location clearly indicate that the store is permanently closed, with no items available for sale. The sudden decision has had a profound impact on numerous small business owners who depended on the marketplace for their livelihood.
As reported by several vendors, an email was sent out on Tuesday announcing the immediate cessation of operations, giving them until April 24 to collect their inventory. This lack of notice has left many vendors in disbelief.
Painted Tree Boutiques traditionally operated as a marketplace where independent vendors rented booth space to sell their products, while the company took a commission on sales. Now, these vendors are faced with the daunting task of relocating their merchandise and uncertain future prospects.
At the Katy site, several vendors were observed packing up their goods. Vanessa Valencia, the owner of Shopvcollection, expressed her shock, stating, “I was in shock because I was not expecting it. We didn’t receive any previous notice… they told me I needed to come get my stuff because we don’t know when they’re going to shut the doors.”
Susmita Guha of GUHAS LLC highlighted the broader impact, saying, “All vendors are suffering… big and small. Some depend on this income, so if it suddenly stops, it’s not good for anyone.”
Employees, who wish to remain anonymous, shared frustrations about being informed of their layoffs just moments before vendors received the closure announcement. They described the entire situation as disappointing and unfair.
In a statement regarding the closure, Painted Tree Boutiques expressed their heartfelt sentiments: “It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude that we share the news that Painted Tree Boutiques has closed all of its store locations. This decision has not come lightly, and it represents the end of a chapter that has meant everything to us.”
The statement continued, “To our shoppers — you have made every single day worthwhile. You came to us not just to shop, but to discover, to support local makers, and to find something truly one-of-a-kind.”
They acknowledged the challenges posed by the changing retail landscape, citing rising costs and shifting market conditions. The message concluded with gratitude for the community’s support, noting that the last day of business was April 13, 2026.
