The American Red Cross is taking proactive measures as Tropical Depression Edouard impacts parts of Texas. Emergency shelters have been established in Polk and Tyler counties to accommodate residents affected by the severe weather conditions.
The Red Cross has announced the opening of shelters in their Southeast and Deep East Texas chapters. Currently, the following locations are available:
Polk County (No Pets Allowed): Dunbar Gym, 1103 Dunbar Avenue, Livingston, Texas
Tyler County (No Pets Allowed): Tyler County Office Emergency Management, 201 Veterans Way #19, Woodville, Texas
Officials from the Red Cross advise individuals planning to stay at these emergency shelters to bring along essential items. Recommended supplies include:
- Prescription medications and important personal documents
- Extra clothing, pillows, blankets, and hygiene products
- Items for children, such as formula, diapers, and toys
- Durable medical equipment or assistive technology, if necessary
Residents seeking additional shelter locations or wanting to stay informed about emergency conditions can do so by visiting redcross.org/shelter, calling 1-800-RED-CROSS, or downloading the free Red Cross Emergency App available on smartphone app stores or at redcross.org/apps.
