A man has been taken into custody following an alarming incident in the parking lot of a bar in northwest Austin, where he allegedly threatened to “shoot up the place” while a large crowd was present.
The event unfolded on February 8, just after 4 a.m., at the Dorzon International Lounge, also known as D2.0 Bar, situated at 12636 Research Boulevard Service Road. According to court documents, an officer from the Austin Police Department was dispatched to the scene after receiving reports of a disturbance involving a patron who had been physical with a security guard.
Upon arrival, the officer encountered 23-year-old Angel Rodriguez, who appeared to be intoxicated and was making his way toward a nearby business. Rodriguez was accompanied by two security officers, who were pursuing him due to his aggressive behavior.
Witnesses indicated that Rodriguez had been disruptive inside the lounge, leading to his removal from the premises. Once outside, he allegedly struck one of the security guards in the face. Additionally, the guards reported that Rodriguez made multiple threats to “shoot up the place,” shouting these alarming declarations in front of more than 100 individuals in the parking lot. Court documents suggest that Rodriguez also made gestures towards his waistband, implying he might be armed.
Concerned patrons approached the security personnel, expressing their fear that Rodriguez would carry out his threats. Given the bar’s history of prior violent incidents, the threats prompted many to evacuate the area. The security guards, recognizing the potential danger, followed Rodriguez as he moved between parked vehicles.
Rodriguez now faces serious charges, including two counts of assault on a felony officer and a terroristic threat related to mass casualty, both classified as felonies.
