A woman from Tarrant County has been arrested on charges of medical child abuse and injury to a child after allegedly exposing a minor to unnecessary medical treatments. The Tarrant County Sheriff’s Office reported that the 31-year-old suspect, Kaitlyn Rose Laura, may have also engaged in potential Medicaid and donor fraud.
Authorities have revealed that Laura created at least three GoFundMe campaigns to solicit funds for her child’s alleged medical issues. This has prompted investigators to reach out to victims or witnesses who may have contributed to these campaigns or communicated with Laura regarding her child’s health.
Laura has been charged with a first-degree felony for causing serious bodily injury to a child, as well as aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. The investigation into her actions has raised serious concerns regarding the well-being of the child involved.
Tarrant County Sheriff Bill Waybourn condemned the medical abuse of children, describing it as a “horrific crime.” He emphasized the complexities often involved in such cases, which can lead to them being overlooked in the criminal justice system, and assured the public of their commitment to thoroughly investigate every report and protect vulnerable children.
The Sheriff’s Office is urging anyone who has donated to Laura or communicated with her about her child’s health to reach out to the Criminal Investigation Division at 817-884-1305.
