A 17-year-old individual has been taken into custody following the fatal shooting of a 19-year-old on Houston’s South Side earlier this month. The suspect faces a capital murder charge in connection with the incident.
The suspect, identified as Crishaad Adams, is alleged to have shot and killed Jose Acosta during an attempted robbery. As of now, Adams’ bond has not been established.
The incident occurred on August 3 on Corder Street, in the vicinity of Scott and Mainer Streets. Law enforcement officials responded to reports of a shooting and discovered a vehicle in a ditch. Inside the vehicle were Acosta and his 15-year-old brother, with Acosta suffering from a gunshot wound.
Acosta was transported to a hospital but was pronounced dead the following day. Fortunately, his younger brother was unharmed in the altercation.
According to reports, the brothers were targeted by three individuals who attempted to rob them. The siblings had been at a park prior to the shooting and encountered some young males. As they made their way to Corder Street, the same group reportedly approached them from a vehicle and opened fire.
Authorities stated that the brothers were being threatened at gunpoint when Acosta attempted to flee the scene. Tragically, the suspects fired at the vehicle, fatally wounding him.
At this time, additional details regarding Adams’ role in the incident remain undisclosed, and it is unclear if any other suspects are still at large.
