A tragic head-on collision on State Highway 171 in Central Texas resulted in the deaths of six individuals, including two children, on Saturday afternoon. The incident occurred around 4:30 PM near Farm-to-Market Road 3155, a rural area connecting the towns of Bynum and Malone, according to Sergeant Ryan W. Howard of the Texas Department of Public Safety.
Initial investigations reveal that a Nissan passenger vehicle was traveling northbound when the driver attempted to overtake another car. In doing so, the Nissan crossed into the oncoming lane and collided with a Ford van, triggering a fire that engulfed both vehicles.
Authorities confirmed that two adults and two children inside the Ford van perished at the scene. A third child from the van survived the crash and was taken to a nearby hospital with injuries that are not life-threatening. The two occupants of the Nissan also lost their lives in the accident.
The identities of those who died are being withheld until their families have been notified. The investigation into this devastating crash is still ongoing, with officials from the Department of Public Safety continuing to gather details.
