On November 3, Texans will take to the polls for the midterm elections, and Harris County voters will have the opportunity to cast their ballots for various federal, state, and local offices.
Registered voters in Harris County can vote at any polling location within the county on Election Day. To assist voters in finding their nearest polling site, an interactive map is available, allowing searches by zip code or address.
The polling hours on Election Day are from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. It’s important for voters to be aware of the Texas voter identification requirements, which must be met to ensure a smooth voting process.
While many Texas counties permit voting at any location within the county of registration, some may require voters to cast their ballots at specific sites based on precinct assignments. Voters can verify their registration status and polling location by visiting the ‘Am I Registered’ portal on the Secretary of State’s website.
In addition to Harris County, several surrounding counties also have polling locations available. Voters can find information for Austin, Brazoria, Chambers, Colorado, Fort Bend, Grimes, Galveston, Liberty, Matagorda, Montgomery, Polk, San Jacinto, Walker, Waller, and Washington counties.
Numerous races will be on the ballot this November, and voters can view their specific county’s ballot by selecting from the list of counties provided.
To vote in person, Texas voters must present an acceptable form of photo identification. The following IDs are recognized:
- Texas Driver License issued by the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS)
- Texas Election Identification Certificate issued by DPS
- Texas Personal Identification Card issued by DPS
- Texas Handgun License issued by DPS
- United States Military Identification Card with photograph
- United States Citizenship Certificate with photograph
- United States Passport (book or card)
If a voter does not have an acceptable photo ID, there are supporting documents that can be presented, such as:
- A government document showing the voter’s name and address, including the voter registration certificate
- A current utility bill
- A bank statement
- A government check
- A paycheck
- A certified birth certificate or another court-admissible document establishing identity
For voters aged 18 to 69, the photo ID must be current or expired for no more than four years. Voters aged 70 and older may use an expired ID regardless of how long it has been expired, provided it meets other requirements.
If voters encounter any issues or have questions, they can reach out to the Secretary of State’s toll-free election hotline at 1-800-252-VOTE (8683) or via email at elections@sos.texas.gov. For formal complaints, a complaint form is available for submission by mail, fax, or email.
