Severe Storms Hit Houston: Rain Forecast for Sunday and Weather Updates

Strong storms have swept through the Greater Houston area, bringing heavy rainfall and severe weather on Saturday night. While the most intense storms have passed, additional rain is anticipated on Sunday.

A Flood Advisory remains in effect for portions of Harris County until 12:15 a.m. on Sunday, as residents prepare for the possibility of rain during the day, particularly those attending the Rodeo.

Storm Activity Recap

Despite the challenging weather conditions, the spirit of the Houston Rodeo was undeterred, with festivities continuing. Coverage from the fairgrounds included reports of the storm’s impact, yet attendees remained upbeat.

As of 9:15 p.m., the Flood Advisory initially affecting Montgomery County has transitioned to Harris County. At 9:10 p.m., a camera captured footage of a driver attempting to navigate a flooded underpass in the EaDo neighborhood.

Earlier in the evening, a Severe Thunderstorm Watch that included several counties, such as Colorado and Matagorda, was lifted before its scheduled time. The Texas Department of Transportation issued warnings regarding high water in some areas of Houston.

Bush Airport reported a weather-related ground stop that has since been lifted, although flights are still experiencing delays averaging close to two hours. Rodeo Houston canceled its Saturday night drone show due to the inclement weather, advising attendees to seek shelter indoors.

Looking Ahead

As unsettled weather persists into the early part of next week, forecasters anticipate a stronger cold front arriving Tuesday night into Wednesday. This may bring additional strong storms, followed by a shift to cooler, drier air later in the week, with overnight temperatures expected to drop into the 50s.
