Texas DPS Discovers Nearly 2,000 Pounds of Meth in Truck Bound for Dallas

The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) made a significant drug bust during a traffic stop in Live Oak County, recovering nearly 2,000 pounds of methamphetamine that was en route to Dallas.

On March 4, a DPS trooper pulled over a semi-truck near George West, located south of San Antonio. During the stop, the officer observed indicators of potential criminal activity, prompting the deployment of a K-9 unit.

The canine search led to the discovery of 479 bundles of methamphetamine, each wrapped in black tape, concealed within the truck’s trailer. The total weight of the seized drugs amounted to 1,980 pounds, with a street value estimated at $3.4 million.

The driver of the truck, 32-year-old Diego Mendez, was arrested and subsequently booked into the Live Oak County jail. He faces charges for possession of a controlled substance exceeding 400 grams.

The DPS confirmed that the truck was destined for Dallas at the time of the stop.
