A tragic accident occurred early Tuesday morning on State Highway 121 in Fort Worth, resulting in the deaths of three individuals and leaving two others hospitalized, including a young child. The incident was triggered by a driver traveling the wrong way on the highway.
The collision took place shortly after 1:20 a.m. near Airport Freeway and North Riverside Drive. According to the Fort Worth Police Department, an adult driving a Jeep was heading eastbound in the westbound lanes when it clipped another vehicle before crashing head-on into a sedan occupied by four people.
Initial findings revealed that the Jeep, while moving through the second lane, struck a car containing three individuals. The driver of that vehicle attempted to evade the oncoming Jeep but was hit on the rear driver’s side. Fortunately, none of the three occupants in this vehicle sustained serious injuries.
Continuing eastbound in the wrong direction, the Jeep collided directly with the four-door sedan. The driver of the Jeep was pronounced dead at the scene. Tragically, two female passengers in the sedan—a front seat passenger and one seated in the back—also lost their lives at the site of the accident.
The male driver of the sedan and a child passenger, estimated to be between 10 and 11 years old, were transported to nearby hospitals, where they are expected to recover, according to police reports.
The Traffic Investigation Unit of the Fort Worth Police Department is currently on-site, collecting evidence and reconstructing the events leading up to the crash. The identities of the deceased will be released following official identification and notification of their families by the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Authorities are urging anyone with video footage or additional information regarding the incident to reach out to the Fort Worth Police Department at 817-392-4222.
