A tragic shooting in North Austin has resulted in the death of a man, marking the city’s 24th homicide of the year, according to police reports.
On May 9, at approximately 12:34 a.m., officers responded to a call regarding a shooting at Los Braseros Mexican Restaurant, located at 9207 North Lamar Blvd. Witnesses reported that a person had been shot, and the suspect had fled the scene.
Upon arrival, officers discovered the victim, later identified as 28-year-old Andres Omar Reyes, lying in the parking lot with multiple gunshot wounds. Unfortunately, Reyes succumbed to his injuries shortly thereafter.
Investigations indicate that Reyes intervened in a dispute involving friends and family from another group when he was shot by a 16-year-old assailant. An employee at the restaurant managed to wrestle the firearm away from the teenager, who then fled the scene and is currently at large.
Authorities are urging anyone with information regarding the incident to reach out to the Austin Police Department at 512-974-TIPS.
