A driver in Spring Branch is sounding the alarm after experiencing significant car trouble, which he attributes to contaminated fuel purchased from a local gas station. Jack Tillett, an Uber driver, filled his tank at a Circle K along Long Point Road and soon found himself in need of extensive repairs.
Following a brief stop for gas after completing an Uber ride, Tillett’s vehicle broke down just a mile and a half from the station. “I got about a mile and a half down the road, and it just backfired, like it was going to blow up twice. It just died. I pushed off to the side of the road. It’s done,” he recounted.
Upon inspecting his gas tank, Tillett discovered what he claims to be contaminants. He was not alone in his misfortune; an employee at the Circle K reported that four to six customers experienced similar issues due to water mixing with the fuel. The employee confirmed that the problem has since been addressed.
The Circle K is an independently operated establishment, and staff members indicated that they are currently collaborating with insurance companies to explore potential reimbursements for affected customers. Tillett has been informed by a mechanic that his vehicle will require a new engine due to the damage sustained.
For those concerned they may have purchased bad gas, Robert Sanchez, the manager at Firestone River Oaks, advises vigilance for certain warning signs. “A lot of times if you get bad gas, the vehicle may be hard to start. You could notice poor acceleration or sluggishness,” he explained. “If that happens, stop driving it and get it checked out.” He emphasized that continuing to operate a vehicle with suspected bad fuel could lead to further damage.
Efforts to reach Circle K corporate regarding the incident are ongoing, with a response still pending.
