A SWAT standoff in a Frisco neighborhood concluded peacefully on Wednesday morning, resulting in the arrest of a 42-year-old suspect without any injuries reported. The incident stemmed from an alert regarding a stolen vehicle, which led to a brief police pursuit and subsequent barricade situation.
The Frisco Police Department received an automated license plate reader notification around 8 a.m. concerning a stolen car near the intersection of Stonebrook Parkway and Dallas Parkway. Officers quickly located the vehicle and attempted to initiate a traffic stop. However, the driver, identified as Nima Ghani, allegedly refused to comply, prompting a short chase.
Ghani abandoned the stolen vehicle in the 7100 block of Fieldstone Drive and fled into his family’s home, where he barricaded himself. In response, a SWAT team and negotiators were deployed, remaining on the scene for several hours. Around noon, officers noticed movement in a bush near the residence.
Frisco Police Deputy Chief John Skertich explained, “They began their procedures for clearing the residence using advanced technology such as drones and robots to ensure officer safety. After assessing the area, they identified the suspect hiding in the bush.” Subsequently, Ghani was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Frisco jail.
Ghani now faces charges for unauthorized use of a vehicle, evading arrest, and drug possession. Fortunately, no injuries occurred during the standoff.
Frisco police emphasized that the incident was isolated and posed no threat to the public. They expressed a preference for suspects to surrender peacefully to avoid escalation. “It’s always best to come into custody before anyone gets hurt or there’s any additional charges,” Deputy Chief Skertich remarked. “We strive for a peaceful resolution in all such situations.”
Local residents expressed their surprise at the sudden turn of events in their typically quiet neighborhood. Donna Hall recounted her experience of witnessing the unfolding situation from her home, noting the unexpected chaos that ensued. “I couldn’t believe it when I realized it was my neighbor involved,” she said, describing the arrival of helicopters and sirens that heightened the sense of urgency in the area.
Another neighbor, Vitor Costa, shared his perspective, revealing how he witnessed the suspect emerge from the bushes, prompting a swift police response. “We were inside the house when he walked out, and suddenly all the guns were pointed at him,” Costa recounted.
Residents remarked on the unusual excitement generated by the incident, considering it stemmed from a stolen vehicle.
