Houston METRO Bus Plunges from Overpass onto Highway 69 After Midtown Crash

A serious accident in the Midtown area of Houston resulted in a METRO bus being pushed off an overpass, leaving more than ten individuals injured. The incident occurred on Saturday when the bus was involved in a collision while traversing the McGowen Street overpass, which spans Highways 59 and 288.

Authorities reported that the crash was triggered when a second vehicle rear-ended the METRO bus, causing it to tumble off the overpass and onto the embankment of southbound Highway 59. Emergency responders received the call about the incident shortly before 3 p.m.

According to Houston METRO police, at least 14 people sustained injuries in the crash. One occupant of the vehicle that struck the bus is currently in critical condition, while the injuries of the others are classified as minor to moderate. The bus driver and twelve passengers were safely extracted from the vehicle, although the driver required specialized tools for assistance as her leg was trapped following the collision.

As of now, the identities of those involved in the accident have not been released, and additional details regarding the circumstances leading up to the crash remain unclear.

In the aftermath, emergency crews are working to safely remove the bus from the embankment. The highway in the vicinity has been closed off, and officials anticipate that it will take several hours before it can be reopened to traffic.
