Kevin Durant Sets Record as Oldest All Star in Houston Rockets History with 2026 Selection

Kevin Durant has etched his name in the record books once again as he achieves a significant milestone in his illustrious career. The Houston Rockets forward has been selected as a reserve for the 2026 NBA All-Star Game, marking his 16th All-Star appearance and making him the oldest player in the franchise’s history to receive this honor at the age of 37.

With this latest selection, Durant now holds the fourth-highest number of All-Star appearances in NBA history, trailing only legends LeBron James, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, and Kobe Bryant. Moreover, he is just three games away from reaching a remarkable scoring milestone, aiming to become only the fourth player in history to achieve 1,000 career games with 20 or more points.

Durant made his All-Star debut at the young age of 21 back in 2010 and has twice been named the All-Star MVP, in 2012 and 2019. His current selection surpasses the previous record held by Rockets icons Clyde Drexler and Hakeem Olajuwon, who were both 34 when they were named All-Stars in 1997.

This season, Durant has continued to ascend the all-time scoring leaderboard. He recently surpassed Dallas Mavericks legend Dirk Nowitzki, claiming the sixth spot on the list, and is now only 544 points shy of Michael Jordan’s fifth-place ranking.

Durant is also on the verge of achieving another remarkable feat, as he has scored 20 points in 997 games throughout his career. He needs just three more such performances to join the elite company of LeBron James, Karl Malone, and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, who are the only players to have reached 1,000 career games with at least 20 points.

At 37 years old, Durant remains a vital part of the Rockets’ offense, currently averaging a team-high 26.2 points per game. His shooting efficiency has been impressive, with a field goal percentage of 51.0% and a 3-point shooting percentage of 40.5% this season. This achievement marks the seventh occasion in his career where he has averaged at least 25 points per game while maintaining shooting percentages above 50.0% overall and 40.0% from beyond the arc, a feat no other player in NBA history has accomplished more than three times.
