An investigation is currently in progress following a tragic overnight collision in Cypress that resulted in the death of a teenager, according to local authorities.
The accident occurred shortly after midnight on Saturday along Tuckerton Road, just east of the Fry Road intersection and near Cypress Creek Bend Drive.
Officials report that two vehicles were traveling in the eastbound lanes of Tuckerton: a Lincoln Aviator in the outer lane and a Honda Accord in the inner lane. The Lincoln was carrying five passengers aged between 16 and 18, while the Honda had two teenage passengers.
According to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, the Lincoln was approaching the Honda from behind when the Honda began to change lanes. The Lincoln then collided with the rear right side of the Honda, causing the latter to veer off the road and crash into a tree.
The Lincoln subsequently rolled over multiple times, and one of its passengers, identified as Jarmelo Vertudez, was ejected from the vehicle. He was transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The driver of the Lincoln also required hospitalization and reportedly exhibited signs of intoxication. The driver of the Honda remained at the scene and did not show indications of intoxication, according to officials.
At this stage, it remains unclear if there were additional injuries resulting from the crash. Authorities have not provided further details regarding the condition of the Lincoln driver, nor have they indicated whether any charges will be filed in connection with the incident.
