The state of Texas has announced an extension for flood-affected recipients of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) to apply for replacement benefits. Those in nine counties impacted by the recent flooding now have until August 3 to submit their requests for assistance.
The extended benefits are designed to reimburse SNAP participants for food that was lost or spoiled due to flooding or related power outages. Recipients can expect the approved funds to be added to their Lone Star Cards within two business days of submitting their requests.
Counties eligible for the extended deadline include Bandera, Blanco, Frio, Gillespie, Kendall, Kerr, Medina, Uvalde, and Val Verde. Governor Greg Abbott emphasized the importance of this extension, stating, “Families who lost food in the recent floods now have more time to request SNAP replacement benefits. This deadline extension through August 3 will help put meals on the table for those in need.”
To request these replacement benefits, SNAP recipients should visit a local Health and Human Services Commission office. For those unable to travel due to age, disability, or distance, they can mail form H1855 to Texas Health and Human Services.
HHS Executive Commissioner Stephanie Muth expressed the agency’s commitment to assisting Texans affected by the floods, stating, “These replacement benefits will help ensure feeding their families is one less worry as they focus on recovering and rebuilding.”
