Wylie Man Faces Murder Charges After Pedestrian Dies in Alleged Auto Accident

A 19-year-old man from North Texas has been charged with murder following the death of a 20-year-old victim, who succumbed to injuries sustained in an alleged auto-pedestrian incident in Wylie. The tragic event reportedly unfolded after the two men engaged in an argument prior to the suspect striking the victim with his vehicle on July 5, in a parking lot on Security Court.

Initially detained on a charge of aggravated assault, Rene Padilla faces upgraded charges after Maximliano Maldonado was critically injured in the incident and later died. Maldonado had been hospitalized since the crash and ultimately passed away on July 11, prompting law enforcement to pursue murder charges against Padilla, who remains incarcerated in Collin County Jail.

Details from the investigation indicate that Wylie police responded to reports of possible racing around 3:38 p.m. on July 5 in the 800 block of Woodbridge Parkway. Upon arrival, officers discovered the auto-pedestrian crash that had just taken place in the parking lot of 207 Security Court. Emergency responders found Maldonado suffering from a severe head injury and transported him to a regional hospital in critical condition.

According to investigators, the confrontation between Maldonado and Padilla escalated into a physical altercation, leading to Maldonado exiting his vehicle. Authorities allege that Padilla then intentionally drove his vehicle into Maldonado. Following the victim’s death, the charge against Padilla was elevated from aggravated assault to murder.

The investigation is ongoing as Wylie police continue to gather evidence in the case.
