Two individuals sustained injuries in a rollover crash on I-35W in Fort Worth, Texas, following an incident involving a suspected drunk driver. The Fort Worth Police Department has charged 34-year-old Gustavo Diaz with intoxication assault after he allegedly rear-ended an SUV, resulting in the vehicle flipping over and injuring its two occupants.
Diaz, who had been arrested for driving while intoxicated just a week earlier, reportedly attempted to flee the scene on foot. However, he was quickly apprehended with the assistance of eyewitnesses who provided descriptions to law enforcement. The condition of the second passenger in the SUV remains unclear, although they were last reported to be in critical condition due to a broken leg.
Details of the incident indicate that the crash occurred early Sunday morning, shortly before 1:30 a.m., as Diaz was traveling southbound on I-35W near Altamesa Boulevard. After the collision caused the SUV to flip, witnesses rushed to help the trapped occupants.
One of the victims, Claudia Luna, shared her experience after being hospitalized with a serious head injury. She was found unconscious in the overturned vehicle but has since been released from the hospital and is now recovering at home with family.
This incident marks Diaz’s second arrest within a week, with charges now including two counts of intoxication assault and involvement in a collision that resulted in serious bodily injury. The investigation into the crash is ongoing, and updates regarding the second passenger’s condition are awaited.
