Montgomery County Deputy Patrol Car Struck During Suspected DWI Traffic Stop on I

A deputy from the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office sustained injuries following a hit-and-run incident involving a suspected impaired driver on Interstate 45. The driver fled the scene but was later apprehended, while the injured deputy received medical attention at a local hospital and has since been discharged.

In the early hours of Saturday, a Montgomery County deputy initiated a traffic stop on I-45 for a driver, identified as 24-year-old Jacob Zamora, on suspicion of driving while intoxicated. A second deputy arrived to assist, positioning their marked patrol vehicle with emergency lights activated to block traffic.

As the deputy exited the patrol car, another vehicle approached but failed to reduce speed or change lanes, colliding with the open door of the patrol vehicle. Instead of stopping to assist, the driver continued on, prompting a swift response from law enforcement.

Deputies followed the trail of the fleeing vehicle to its registered address, where they discovered a damaged car belonging to 33-year-old Elizabeth Perez, who was identified as the driver at the time of the incident. Both Perez and Zamora were taken into custody and booked into the Montgomery County Jail.

Perez faces serious charges including felony failure to stop and render aid, passing an emergency vehicle resulting in bodily injury, and driving while intoxicated. Zamora has been charged with driving while intoxicated as well.

The deputy who was injured during the incident was promptly transported to an area hospital for treatment and has since been released.
