A man from Hays County is in police custody following his alleged involvement in three distinct shootings that occurred within a month. The suspect, 21-year-old Abraham Herrera, faces multiple charges related to two drive-by shootings and a standoff with SWAT officers, during which he refused to surrender.
The series of incidents began on November 3, when deputies responded to reports of gunfire in the 500 block of Santa Fe Run in Kyle. Upon arrival, they discovered a homeowner had sustained serious injuries from multiple shots fired into the residence. Investigators indicated that this incident appeared to be random and lacked a clear motive. Law enforcement later released an image of an SUV believed to have been used by the shooter, but no arrests were made at that time.
On November 12, Hays County SWAT was deployed to manage a barricade situation in Buda near FM 2001. While investigating gunfire reports in the vicinity, deputies encountered Herrera, who fled into a nearby wooded area and refused to comply with their orders to surrender. Drone footage later captured SWAT officers apprehending him without any injuries. Following the arrest, an AR-15-style firearm and ammunition were recovered.
Following these events, Herrera was charged with several offenses, including evading arrest/detention (Class A misdemeanor), unlawful carrying of weapons (Class A misdemeanor), disorderly conduct (Class B misdemeanor), and tampering/fabricating evidence (3rd degree felony). Court records indicate he was released on bond just two days later, on November 14.
Weeks later, on December 1, authorities investigated a drive-by shooting in Martindale that occurred the weekend after Thanksgiving. Herrera was identified as the suspect and was taken into custody shortly after the incident. The Texas Rangers provided digital evidence that linked him to this shooting as well as to the earlier drive-by shooting in Kyle.
In connection to the Kyle shooting, Herrera has been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, with a bond set at $250,000. On December 19, he was arrested on an outstanding warrant issued by the Texas Rangers. By December 22, investigators connected shell casings found at the scene of the Kyle shooting to the firearm previously seized during the SWAT standoff.
In addition to the aforementioned charges, Herrera faces separate accusations for disorderly conduct with a firearm, tampering with physical evidence, and evading arrest, culminating in a total bond amount of $409,500.
