$6 Million in Fake FIFA World Cup Merchandise Seized in Houston

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officials have made a significant seizure of counterfeit merchandise related to the FIFA World Cup 2026, uncovering over $6 million worth of fraudulent products in the Houston area.

The extensive haul included a staggering quantity of items, such as:

  • 12,000 Adidas soccer jerseys
  • 4,500 Adidas FIFA soccer balls
  • 4,400 pairs of athletic shoes
  • 69 packages containing 2,200 counterfeit Apple watches and earbuds featuring the FIFA logo
  • Various toys and perfumes

CBP’s Houston/Galveston Trade Enforcement officers executed this operation as part of their ongoing efforts to combat violations of Intellectual Property Rights, particularly those related to trademarks owned by FIFA. The agency employs intelligence gathering and historical trend analysis to identify and target shipments of counterfeit goods, especially in the lead-up to major sporting events like the World Cup.

Most of the counterfeit items intercepted were reportedly shipped from China, intended for both domestic and international markets. However, further details regarding the specific items seized remain undisclosed.

This recent operation underscores the continuous challenges posed by counterfeit merchandise and the importance of vigilant enforcement measures to protect consumers and intellectual property rights.
