A late-night apartment fire at The Grove on Gladstell in Conroe has left a family of six homeless. Fortunately, they are alive today thanks to the heroic actions of their 11-year-old daughter, Azalia Foster. Since the incident, the local community has come together to provide much-needed support to the family during this challenging time.
The fire erupted on Friday night, quickly engulfing a portion of the apartment complex. Morgan Font was at home with her four-month-old son and her three daughters, aged 4, 10, and 11, when Azalia spotted flames coming from the apartment below. “The fire was big, and I’m just glad I got everyone out,” Azalia recounted.
Font acknowledged her daughter’s quick thinking, stating, “If it wasn’t for my daughter, I wouldn’t have known. If I was sleeping, God forbid, I would’ve woken up to flames. I don’t know if we would have gotten out.” The family escaped just minutes before the flames reached their apartment, but they lost everything in the process.
Font expressed the gravity of their loss: “It’s been really hard. I had a blanket made of their baby pictures hanging in their room. I had things my grandmother gave me and family items my mom bought for me. We lost everything.”
In the aftermath of the fire, the Conroe community has stepped up to assist the family, donating clothing, shoes, baby formula, and other essential items. Their plight has resonated with many, garnering support from friends, neighbors, and even strangers who have reached out to help. “So many people have tried to make donations to us, and I’m so grateful,” Font shared.
Azalia also expressed gratitude for the community’s generosity, saying, “Thank you for helping us because we lost everything that we loved. Some of it we can’t get back.”
Additionally, a local business, The Mover, has contributed by providing furniture and beds for the family. To further assist in their recovery, a fundraiser has been established to help them rebuild their lives.
