Authorities in Houston have arrested an 18-year-old man, Darius Dewayne Hall, in connection with the shooting death of a 61-year-old woman. Hall faces multiple charges, including capital murder, evading arrest, and tampering with physical evidence.
According to court records from Harris County, Hall’s bond has been set at $150,000 for the evading arrest and tampering charges, while the bond for the capital murder charge has been denied.
The incident unfolded late Friday night when police were alerted to a shooting on West 20th Street, close to Lawrence Street. Upon arrival, officers discovered the victim on the sidewalk, suffering from gunshot wounds. She was transported to a local hospital but was pronounced dead shortly thereafter.
Initial investigations revealed that the woman had parked her car and was on her way to visit a friend when she was shot, likely during a robbery. Authorities noted that her vehicle was missing from the scene.
Law enforcement agencies worked together to locate the stolen vehicle, which led to a pursuit involving Hall. The chase concluded when he barricaded himself in an unoccupied apartment along the Southwest Freeway, where he was ultimately apprehended.
Police confirmed that the shooting incident and the subsequent chase were directly related. Hall is currently in custody as the investigation continues.
Further court documents indicate that Hall was previously placed on community supervision in October 2024 for earlier offenses, which included evading arrest and aggravated robbery. His supervision was intended to last until October 2027.
