Tragedy struck in Bangor, Maine, as a plane crash has resulted in the deaths of seven individuals, with one flight crew member sustaining serious injuries. The incident involved a Bombardier Challenger aircraft, which was carrying eight people at the time of the accident.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) confirmed that the crash occurred while the plane was attempting to take off from Bangor International Airport amidst challenging weather conditions due to a significant winter storm in the region.
The aircraft, identified by the tail number N10KJ, reportedly took off at approximately 7:45 p.m. ET. After departing from Houston earlier that evening, the plane attempted to take off from Bangor but tragically overturned on the runway shortly thereafter. Emergency communications indicated that the aircraft was found upside down, prompting the airport to suspend all operations immediately.
Witnesses reported that following the crash, the aircraft caught fire after overturning. The N10KJ is registered to KTKJ Challenger, LLC, an entity associated with the Houston law firm Arnold & Itkin. While some reports suggest that the firm owns the aircraft, this information has yet to be independently verified, and there is no confirmation regarding the involvement of any staff members in the incident.
The Bombardier Challenger 600, which was involved in the crash, is a well-known business jet that can accommodate between nine to eleven passengers. Launched in 1980, it was the first private jet to feature a “walk-about cabin,” making it a popular choice for charter services.
In response to the incident, both the FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board have initiated investigations to determine the circumstances surrounding the crash.
