Travis County has officially lifted its burn ban, effective November 3, 2026, for unincorporated areas within the county.
Gary Howell, the Travis County Fire Marshal, announced that recent improvements in weather conditions have increased moisture levels and reduced the risk of wildfires, making it safe to lift the ban. However, he cautioned residents that outdoor burning still poses risks, urging them to practice safety precautions to prevent accidental fires.
Residents are now permitted to burn trash, debris, or brush outdoors, but they are advised to remain vigilant and aware of potentially hazardous fire conditions. Compliance with state regulations, specifically Texas Administrative Code Section 30 TAC 111.219, is required for all outdoor burning activities.
Officials recommend keeping water or a fire extinguisher at hand during burning activities and advise that 911 be contacted immediately if a fire spirals out of control. Residents should also reach out to their local fire department prior to any outdoor burning to ensure they have obtained the necessary permits. For assistance in identifying the correct fire department to contact, residents can call the Travis County Fire Marshal’s Office at 512-854-4621.
