Red Steagall, who holds the title of “Official Cowboy Poet of Texas,” is set to perform a special recitation at TCU Press’s “The Western Word” event at Bosque Ranch Live. The renowned singer, songwriter, and poet will be a key guest at the Western celebration hosted by filmmaker Taylor Sheridan on Saturday, September 12.
Bosque Ranch Live is a prominent Western music and culture gathering situated on Sheridan’s expansive 600-acre ranch in the Silverado on the Brazos gated community, located just west of Fort Worth. This venue not only serves as an elite equine training center and a music event space but also as a primary filming site for popular television series such as Yellowstone and 1883.
At this event, TCU Press will present “The Western Word,” an engaging reading lounge that invites attendees to explore literature focused on Texas, Fort Worth, and the broader American West. Guests will have the opportunity to meet the authors and take home stories of their own from noon to 6 PM. Steagall is scheduled to perform at 4 PM, showcasing the cowboy tradition of reciting works from memory, including both poetry and prose that reflect his deep appreciation for the American West. His performance is anticipated to be one of the event’s highlights.
For over fifty years, Red Steagall has emerged as one of the most cherished voices representing the American West. Beyond his roles as a songwriter, recording artist, poet, broadcaster, and working rancher, he was officially designated as the Cowboy Poet of Texas by the state legislature in 1991 and later honored as Texas Poet Laureate. In 2003, he received the prestigious honor of being inducted into the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum’s Hall of Great Westerners, joining the ranks of legendary figures like Will Rogers and Charles Goodnight.
A fourth-generation Texan, Steagall operates a ranch in Parker County and is the founder of the celebrated Red Steagall Cowboy Gathering in the Fort Worth Stockyards. Through his music, poetry, and long-standing broadcasts, he has shared the essence of the cowboy code with audiences worldwide.
Visitors to the lounge can purchase and have Steagall’s books signed, alongside a complete lineup of Western and Texas authors represented by TCU Press.
