A 36-year-old man, already facing charges for aggravated robbery, attempted to evade law enforcement by climbing into the ceiling of Charlton Methodist Medical Center in Dallas. This incident occurred on Sunday, July 12, while the suspect was being treated at the hospital.
The Dallas County Sheriff’s Office reported that the man, who was under the watch of a deputy and wearing leg restraints, requested to use the restroom. Once inside, he managed to remove a ceiling tile and ascend into the ceiling space in a bid to escape custody.
Upon realizing the inmate was missing, the deputy quickly alerted Methodist Hospital Police. The situation escalated as Dallas police officers and a K-9 unit from DeSoto were dispatched to the scene.
Officials indicated that a hospital engineer informed law enforcement that the ceiling above the restroom was confined, which allowed them to track the suspect’s movements. The inmate ultimately surrendered after hearing the approaching K-9 unit, returning to custody without further incident.
No injuries were reported among deputies, hospital staff, patients, or the public during this attempted escape. The sheriff’s office confirmed that the investigation is ongoing, and the suspect is likely to face additional charges stemming from this incident.
