In a tragic incident on Saturday evening in Missouri City, a residential fire resulted in injuries to two firefighters and the death of two family pets. Fortunately, the residents of the home managed to escape unharmed.
The fire broke out around 5:24 p.m. in the 3800 block of Quail Meadow Drive, prompting a swift response from Missouri City Fire & Rescue Services. Fire crews arrived approximately seven minutes later to find heavy flames engulfing the attic.
Firefighters quickly initiated a vigorous attack on the blaze while simultaneously searching the premises. Their efforts eventually led to the fire being contained, although the house suffered substantial damage from both fire and smoke.
During their search, the firefighters discovered two pets within the home and immediately attempted lifesaving measures. Sadly, despite their best efforts, both animals perished at the scene. Animal Control was called in to assist with the situation.
Two firefighters were transported to a nearby hospital for evaluation and treatment of their injuries. One firefighter experienced heat-related illness, while the other sustained a minor musculoskeletal injury when a ceiling collapsed during their firefighting efforts. Thankfully, both injuries were deemed non-life-threatening.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation by the Missouri City Fire Marshal’s Office, as officials work to determine the circumstances surrounding this unfortunate event.
In total, the response to the incident involved six fire engines, one ladder truck, two squads, two battalion chiefs, three medic units, and one EMS battalion chief.
