A man was apprehended following a high-speed chase in Houston involving a stolen vehicle, which reached speeds of up to 120 mph, according to officials from Harris County Precinct 7.
Lieutenant Ashton Johnson-Hall from the Harris County Constable Precinct 7 Office reported that a deputy first spotted the stolen car on Scott Street, close to the 610 West Loop. The pursuit commenced as the vehicle entered the westbound lanes of the highway.
With assistance from a DPS helicopter, the chase continued at high speeds for approximately five minutes, covering around six to seven miles through the Bellaire area. The suspect was seen driving in the left lane of the 610 West Loop during this time.
Eventually, the suspect entered a residential neighborhood and attempted to abandon the vehicle near a wooded area. However, after hearing the helicopter overhead, he decided to re-enter the vehicle and continued his flight on Bissonnet Street, driving without headlights.
The pursuit came to a halt when the suspect collided with another vehicle on Bissonnet Street, which was driven by a man who had just finished his shift at a local restaurant. Fortunately, the man was wearing his seat belt, and his airbags deployed upon impact. He managed to leave the scene in relatively good spirits but reported some soreness in his left shoulder.
Authorities successfully disabled the stolen vehicle, allowing them to apprehend the suspect without any further complications. It was revealed that the suspect had a prior criminal record and a history of evading law enforcement. He was subsequently taken to a hospital for evaluation before being booked into the Harris County Jail on multiple felony charges.
As of now, the identity of the suspect has not been disclosed by the authorities.
